Physician owned medical facilities have experienced many challenges, threats and attacks over the past several years. The American Hospital Association (AHA) has dedicated tremendous resources in their fight to limit or eliminate physician owned facilities. They have challenged our industry because they understand that physician owned facilities are able to compete with them on quality and price with greater patient convenience and satisfaction. Rather than compete on a fair and level playing field, the AHA is attempting to crush our industry by a number of means including attempting to legislate us out of existence.

In an effort to respond to these attacks, and to take a proactive position going forward, Foundation Surgery Affiliates has formed an internal Legislative Affairs Committee. The purpose of this Committee is to defend our physician partners against those that would seek to eliminate, oppose or further restrict physician ownership. Foundation is committed to coordinating and leading industry groups including the Competitive Healthcare Coalition, and others, to fight restrictions on physician ownership. Physicians and physician owned health facilities now have the opportunity to take advantage of the resources Foundation has assembled in this effort. On of those resources is The Voice, a comprehensive CD-ROM, that gives physicians and physician owned health facilities the opportunity to take advantage of a unified source of legal studies, legislation and published articles that support physician ownership.

We will continue to face challenges and our goal is to confront those challenges and address them with facts. As an integrated team, we can continue to excel in the health care industry, and protect physician ownership.
