FSA President Speaks at Conference

02/11/10

Jon H. Friesen, President of Foundation Surgery Affiliates, served as a panelist to discuss the impact of healthcare reform on ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs).  The event was sponsored by McGuire Woods, and attracted over 250 leading healthcare executives.  Fellow panelists included Joe Carlucci, Tim Martin and Jim Riley, who addressed the impact of healthcare reform on the outpatient treatment areas of oncology and dialysis.

With approximately 70% of all surgeries being performed on an outpatient basis, the ambulatory surgery center industry has now grown to over 5,800 freestanding facilities. Asked by moderator Amber Walsh about the future growth and success of the ASC treatment model, Mr. Friesen responded, “In our opinion, ASCs will be part of the solution to lowering the overall cost of healthcare. One way to reduce cost is to provide the highest quality of outpatient surgical care in a cost-effective setting…ASCs do exactly that. In fact, healthcare reform needs to include provisions to expand the utilization of the ambulatory surgery center treatment model.”

Foundation Surgery Affiliates is an industry leading ASC management and development company focused on partnering with physicians and employees to create an outstanding patient experience, while maximizing partner and shareholder value.
